Gin Rummy
About Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is a two-player card game that is popular around the world. The objective of the game is to be the first player to reach 100 points by forming sets or runs of cards in their hand and laying them down on the table.
To begin playing Gin Rummy, each player is dealt 10 cards. The remaining cards are placed face down on the table, and the top card is turned over to begin the discard pile. The player who did not deal the cards goes first.
On their turn, a player can either draw a card from the deck or pick up the top card from the discard pile. The player then tries to form sets or runs of cards in their hand. A set consists of three or four cards of the same rank, while a run consists of three or more cards in sequence in the same suit.
After forming a set or run, a player can lay it down on the table face up. This is called "going down." A player can also add cards to sets or runs that have already been laid down.
When a player has formed sets or runs that have a total point value of at least 10, they can "knock" to end the hand. This means they lay down all their cards and end their turn. The other player then has one more turn to lay down any additional sets or runs.
After the hand ends, players score points based on the cards in their hand. Aces are worth one point, face cards are worth 10 points, and all other cards are worth their face value. Players score points for sets or runs that they laid down, as well as for any cards that they have left in their hand that do not belong to a set or run.
The game continues with players dealing and taking turns until one player reaches 100 points or more. At that point, the game ends, and the player with the highest score wins.
